On Friday we went to the American Idols Live concert. It was really fun - some good performances and some pretty mediocre-verging-on-bad performances. I had fun waving my glowstick wildly. After the show we went out to the bus area to wait for the idols to appear and sure enough, they did. Dad got lots of good pictures while I got squished in the crowd trying to get autographs. I was only able to get Anwar's autograph even though Anthony and Constantine stood in front of me for a while...they never grabbed my ticket (which was the only thing I had for them to sign) even though I was sticking it in their line of sight the whole time. Oh well. I'm simply not loud enough to compete with the other screaming girls...and boy did they scream. There were a lot of security people but they were all pretty calm and cool. So different from a concert out here where they don't get a lot of big acts and security gets all panicky.

On Saturday we went to the Schaghticoke fair ("Schaght" = "scat") in Schaghticoke, NY. It was a cool little fair with lots of cows...LOTS of cows. Several of them peeing gallons and gallons of pee. I was able to pet a big grey rabbit that was the size of a cat and I was stared at by a llama who wiggled his/her lips at me. Sexy.
At the fair we also saw the Royal Hanneford Circus which we used to see at the Altamont Fair back when they still had a grandstand and when the circus had three rings and a small live band. The ringmaster used to be [dramatic voice] Señor Ray [/dramatic voice] (or maybe Rey?) and he was awesome and flamboyant in his glittery costumes and fabulous makeup. Alas, Señor Ray isn't with them anymore but the new guy was pretty good despite the lack of fabulous makeup - he can at least sing the anthem really well and he looks good in glittery costumes.
It was a one ring, big top event with one of the most fun dog acts I've ever seen. There were three giant schnauzers and three miniature schnauzers and one miniature poodle (I think...it wasn't a big one) and they were SO cute! The schnauzers were dressed up (and introduced) as ponies with fake tails and head plumes and stuff. The poodle wore a little white dress and hat and danced a lovely waltz with the trainer on her hind legs. Quite funny and very sweet. I was torn between feeling sorry for the dogs and being delighted, but the dogs seemed to be having a good time, so "delighted" won out in the end. However, a poodle in a dress walking on her hind legs is a little creepy. The dog trainer also did a juggling act where the dogs came out to bring him the next bunch of clubs or balls or whatever he was juggling. I was so impressed with those dogs. I was also thrilled that they didn't have any creepy-ass clowns.
The rest of the time with my folks was spent hanging out, reading Harry Potter out loud, and watching stuff on the Big-Ass TV. It was a pretty relaxed visit and it's so nice that my mom doesn't have to work on Saturday anymore so we can do stuff like go to the fair. :) Hoorah!
