We spent Friday night getting ready for our yard/garage/driveway sale. We were up until 1am putting prices on things, organizing the stuff, moving it out to the garage and making signs. Zadie was going to come over to help Friday night but her sister went into labor and she got a last minute flight to be with her. So, we were running a little behind.
We ran around on Saturday morning putting signs up [illegally] on telephone poles and returned as our sale was supposed to start. There were a bunch of people waiting for us and they were fairly patient while we got some setting up done.
Slightly unnerving: Several of the first folks to show up asked if we had any guns or knives.
Um...no.
The day went by pretty quickly with a decent stream of customers. Jeff and Karen came over to keep us company. All totalled we made about $150. Personally, Neil and I made about $65...almost entirely from stuff that cost $1 or less...mostly less. Brian came in second at $48 and he had a bunch of higher priced stuff. His huge mound of silverware was highly popular - there are only a few pieces left. Nobody was looking for larger items or dishes - no furniture nibbles, unfortunately. If we had more time to advertise around the university, I bet we would have had more sales. We had a ton of stuff that was perfect for students in apartments.
We started out with five boxes filled to the brim plus a ton of bigger items and clothes. When we packed it in, we had three boxes of stuff which weren't half as full as before. I wish I had taken more photos because it was sort of impressive. Somebody said it was the best garage sale he had been to all day. Hoorah!

We went out to dinner at Szechwan afterward because we were exhausted. Mmm...
I slept particularly well Saturday night and got up early on Sunday. I wanted to set up the synchronization software for Neil's new pocket PC and do some organizing of my email address books etc. So, I installed the software and it was weird. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and messed with a bunch of settings and it finally worked. It took WAY too long.
Then I wanted to sync my contacts in Outlook with my Yahoo address book. Well, DISASTER. I think it was because of Yahoo's new beta stuff, but it ate ALL of my contacts from outlook. Then when I went to re-sync Outlook with my Pocket PC in order to restore that info, instead of using the content from the PC (and I have no idea why this happened except that maybe it was the new software) it used the content from Outlook and emptied all my contacts from my Pocket PC! Everyone's information: gone. ARG!!!!! It made me sooooooooo mad!
Anyhow, I think it's ok now. I was able to export my contacts from Yahoo (which, when I pulled the info from Outlook did in fact work) back into Outlook, though some of the info was missing (I had to mess with the damn field mapping to get it right). Blah blah blah. Hopefully I still have everyone's correct information.
What a nightmare.
Tonight: Searching for the elusive Halloween costume...and hoping to plant some dafodils.
