Evidently the chronic tooth grinding that I do in my sleep has finally wreaked havoc. I actually chipped one of my front teeth with another of my front teeth. I'm not sure when it happened, but I noticed it last night. I think it happened a few weeks ago when I was awakened by a horrible cracking, grinding sound that had obviously just come from my mouth. I remember feeling like something had to have broken and looking back on it, I'm sure it involved these two same teeth, but I don't remember actually looking at them closely in the mirror after that event. It doesn't really feel any different, and unless my mouth is open and there's darkness behind the tooth (as opposed to my bottom teeth as when I'm smiling), it's hard to notice the little chip.
The funny thing is that I have a night guard to wear to prevent just this thing from happening, and I think I had actually put it in that night, but due to my habit of removing it in my sleep and waking up with it under my back instead of in my mouth, it was not in my mouth at the time.
Drat. Dentist, here I come.
