Oldest known recorded human voice

How cool is this?

A recording found in Paris is believed to predate Thomas Edison’s invention of the phonograph by nearly 20 years.

The recording evidently gave BBC newscaster Charlotte Green the giggles.

Oh the uncontrollable giggles! And of course the story she loses it on is about the death of a prominent figure.

Reminds me of a time a local news anchor here in Winnipeg got the giggles. Brian Swain always gave a news brief in the middle of M*A*S*H episodes, and I guess he liked to watch the show before he went on air. The one time he came on just after a particularly funny segment on the show, and he couldn't control his laughter. To make matters worse, the story he was trying to read was about a plane crash with hundreds dead.
