Neil Rocks. Syracuse...not so much

Neil played his first round for the Syracuse Symphony yesterday within the 12:00 hour and felt he played really well. They asked for the Bach Sarabande (solo), the middle excerpt from Beethoven 9, Berlioz Hungarian March, Shostakovich 5, and Wagner Tannhauser (2nd excerpt). After waiting for four more players to audition (there were 20 of them total) they were told that nobody would advance and that the auditions were over. What a waste of time and money for the auditionees as well as the auditioners! I mean, really. I understand this happens a lot for one-year positions, but that doesn't really make it ok, does it?

Anyhow, Neil felt he played really well and I think he believes that he would have been pretty good competition, had there actually been a competition. Chalk it up to experience.

He gets home in a few hours and has to go work a full day at Camp. Wheeeee.

I spent WAY too long trying to straighten the muslin I bought for those pillows last night. I don't know what was wrong with it! I'd fold it properly and line it up with my ruler and cut it with my rotary cutter the way I always do and voila! Totally NOT SQUARE. At all. I don't get it. In the end I had to make a paper pattern and trace it onto the fabric. Very frustrating. But the insert I made looks really good...now to add the stuffing! I'm pretty excited.
