Rattling around

Here I am, rattling around at home by myself. Neil is on his way to his audition (it's on Monday - break a leg, Neil!) and I'm trying to keep myself entertained. It feels weird to be home alone and for Neil to NOT be on tour. It's bizarre to think that he's not currently driving hundreds of miles to play some gig for 500 third graders but instead he's on a plane on his way to an orchestral audition! That's just bizarre to me.

Today Liza (the new T&S trombonist) and I went out in search of pillow-making materials. She picked some really beautiful (and shiny!) fabric and now I get to fashion it into two huge-ass pillows for her. I'm a little concerned because she picked such wiggly, slippery fabric and I've never worked with that sort before, but I think I'll be ok if I'm careful and if I use my walking foot. I'm thinking that I will want to make my own pillow forms to put inside these babies because if they're just stuffed with poly-fil it's possible that the fill will work its way to the outside of the fabric over time. Plus, there will be some added strength with another layer of fabric in there. I'm going to go to Joann's again tomorrow to see if I can find some cheap, slightly slippery muslin to make a form out of.

Old Songs was awesome this year despite the insane mosquitoes. Galitcha was a favorite (my dad is in love with them), Le Vent du Nord was good as always, April Verch got everyone all fired up (holy amazing percussive feet, Batman!), and Chuck & Albert killed with their silliness and awesome fiddling. I got to play with my dad's fancy SLR camera and I took a ton of photos. I chauffered my mom around on the golf cart and tried to help keep my dad on track. Amazingly enough my mom didn't take a nap on either Saturday or Sunday - she felt pretty good all weekend.

I seriously don't know what to do with myself tonight. I do know that I need to get off the computer. Maybe I'll watch a movie.
